The niom
interview.
30 minutes. One assignment. We watch how you think — so think out loud.
01 / THE PREMISE
We're not hiring you on the artifact.
We're observing the first 30 minutes of a smart PM in front of a real product brief — the way you read requirements, what you search for, how you frame an approach, what you decide to build first.
That's what recruiters are looking for. The artifact comes later.
02 / THE FORMAT
30 minutes live. 24 hours after.
A 30-minute live session over Google Meet, recorded end to end. You'll receive a product brief drawn at random from our assignment library — roughly half a page of requirements written the way a senior or client would actually hand them to you.
You read it. You research. You outline how you'd approach it. You can't ask the interviewer questions — only the internet.
You don't have to produce anything during the call. You have 24 hours after the session to submit a working prototype as a public link — built with whatever AI tool you choose. Send it as a reply on the email thread we used to schedule.
03 / BEFORE YOU JOIN
A few things to send back first.
Reply to the scheduling email and confirm four things:
- You've read and accept the code of conduct on this page.
- Your salary expectation for the kind of role you're open to.
- A link to your current LinkedIn profile.
- Your expectations about the work — setup, location, hours, anything we should know.
And check your setup ahead of time
- Google Meet camera permission enabled.
- Google Meet full-screen share permission enabled.
- Stable internet, single laptop, single browser window.
- A closed, quiet room. Alone.
04 / WHAT YOU CAN USE
Any tool. Just no other human.
Allowed
Any AI assistant — Claude, ChatGPT, Gemini, Cursor, Lovable, v0, Bolt, Replit.
Any search engine. Any platform you'd actually reach for in real research — LinkedIn, X, YouTube, Reddit, Instagram, anything.
Anything that doesn't involve another person.
Not allowed
Another human, in any form.
No calls. No DMs. No whispered help from someone in the next room. No second screen feeding you answers.
That's the line.
05 / CODE OF CONDUCT
Six rules. By accepting the interview invitation, you accept all six.
Be alone in a closed room for the entire session.
No one else in the room. Door shut.
Keep your camera on the entire time.
Face visible. Not pointed at the ceiling.
Share your full screen the entire time.
Entire screen — not a single window or tab.
Use no secondary screen or device.
One laptop. No second monitor, no phone in hand, no tablet.
Stay in a single browser window and profile.
No virtual machines, no remote desktops, no hidden environments.
Keep a stable internet connection.
If you disconnect for more than two minutes, the session ends and we'll reschedule.
06 / IF A RULE IS BROKEN
The session ends. Immediately.
The niom interviewer ends the session the moment a rule is broken. Your application is then paused for 90 days from the date of the incident. You're welcome to reapply after.
07 / THE RECORDING
What we do with it.
The full session is recorded. niom's team reviews it as part of your assessment. Recruiters and hiring teams who request access to your profile may also watch it — that's how niom works, and it's how PMs on niom get hired without the screening grind.
08 / WHO YOU'LL MEET
A niom team member. Likely anonymous.
A niom team member hosts the call — runs the assignment, watches the room, verifies the rules. They may keep their camera off and stay anonymous.
That's intentional. We want your focus on the brief in front of you.
